This presentation focuses on artists who have created alternative versions of iconic paintings depicting American history, including “Washington Crossing the Delaware” by Emanuel Leutze.

Kehinde Wiley is known for his works that take their inspiration from famous European paintings. But Wiley is not alone in “flipping the script” in his work. Many Black, female and other artists are “updating” iconic paintings to see themselves in the picture.
