Each year Sarasota's bayfront is home to both the Sarasota Season of Sculpture and Embracing Our Differences art exhibits.
Sarasota Season of Sculpture
Sarasota Sculpture Center (SSC) is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization that has exhibited biennially for 15 years on Sarasota’s bayfront, connecting the downtown area to the waterfront. These exhibitions of monumental sculpture by internationally acclaimed artists have showcased 140 sculptures and 103 artists representing 18 states and 13 foreign countries! SSC is financially supported by the generous donations of their patrons, grant opportunities provided by Community Foundations, and seasonal sculpture sponsors. Their Board of Directors welcomes your participation in this exciting gem they add to Sarasota’s proclaimed crown of the “Cultural Coast."
Embracing Our Differences
The Embracing Our Differences exhibit is an outdoor, juried, international art exhibit in Sarasota's downtown bayfront area featuring 45 billboard size images created by local, national and international artists, writers and students reflecting their interpretations of the theme "enriching lives through diversity." The goal is to create a community where diversity and inclusion are valued while teaching the importance of being an “up-stander,” not a “by- stander.” Each year the Embracing Our Differences international art exhibit gets bigger and better. The 12th annual exhibit in 2015 was no exception as they hosted 271,000 visitors bringing attendance, since 2004, to more than 2,100,000. The 2015 exhibit received 6,454 submissions representing 80 countries, 42 states and 118 schools from such distant places as Brazil, Iran, Israel, Japan, and South Korea.
More information, including information on the Public Art Committee and procedures and policies related to public art, is available on the City of Sarasota's Website.
