LOCAL JAZZ BAND SELECTED FOR PRESTIGIOUS FESTIVAL
Local jazz band, Jazz Juvenocracy has been invited to perform at the International Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland this July. Over 6,000 bands from all over the world applied for their category, and Jazz Juvenocracy was one of only five selected.
Jazz Juvenocracy is a student band ranging in age from 13 to 18. The band has been performing together for just over three years now. Founded by trumpet player, Bit, at the age of 9, the band plays a weekly gig at the Irish Rover Pub in Sarasota each Sunday from 6 to 9 pm; and they're probably most well known for their charity work, playing at local nursing homes and raising funds for such organizations as Aids in Africa, E-fest for Greener Living, and the All Chidren's Hospital.
Now the band is hoping to represent Sarasota at Montreaux's International Jazz Festival, but they need our help. To help raise funds for air fare and other expenses, Jazz Juvenocracy is organizing the "Underdog Jazz Festival" on April 24 at PAL Sailor Circus. Head out to the festival and show your support. Sponsorship opportunities are also still availalbe.
