AN INSPIRATIONAL ART CLASS IN SARASOTA
There's nothing unusual about an art class in Sarasota County. But, there is one that's unique and it is held at Resurrection House for homeless people each Thursday.
It is the brainchild of Janet Taylor, Outreach Coordinator for the Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness. Janet was inspired by a conference last year called Arts in Action that promoted connecting arts and community development. It took her six months to get funding from Tommy Bahama and other sources, but now the class taught by Expressive Arts Facilitator, Tamara Knapp of Expressive Arts is a success. Art Center Sarasota offered a scholarship to one student who has thrived. Now they are offering scholarships to four more people.
However, each students needs supplies - canvases, flat bristle brushes, and acrylic paints.
