AN ARTS COUNCIL EVENT TO "CELEBRATE STUDENT ARTISTS"

The Sarasota County Arts Council invites the public to “Celebrate Student Artists” from noon to 5 pm on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Herald-Tribune, 1741 Main Street.

Students in Sarasota County Schools will contribute to a marvelous line up of stage performances and art exhibitions that include but are not limited to:
              • Finalists from the High School Idol competition
              • Emma E. Booker Chorus and Drumline
              • Creative Writing Students of Booker Middle School.

“One of the top priorities of the Arts Council is to build support for arts education programs in our schools,” says Sarasota County Arts Council Executive Director Jim Shirley. “We hope this showcase of the amazing artistic talents in our schools will inspire the community to ensure the arts remain an essential part of a complete education for our students.”

“This event offers a glimpse into some of our school district's many diverse arts offerings and a look at its talented students,” says Angela Hartvigsen, fine arts program specialist for the School Board of Sarasota County. “High-quality instruction in the arts is an essential component of a student's multi-faceted education and helps create focused, disciplined thinkers who approach life and learning creatively and with passion. All of our children deserve the advantages the arts give them and we are so lucky to live in a community that continues to support the arts.”

Local arts and cultural organizations will also be present at the event to offer information on the various student-oriented programs, workshops and scholarship opportunities.

This event is a collaboration of the Sarasota County Arts Council, Herald-Tribune Media Group and Sarasota County Schools.
