Katharine Butler Lecture

This lecture is by gallery owner and artist Katharine Cosenza Butler

(Please RSVP for the lecture as we have a limited amount of space)

This lecture is by gallery owner and artist Katharine Cosenza Butler and is the seventh in a series of lectures and demonstrations scheduled throughout the 2009 – 2010 season. The topic for Katharine’s lecture is "The Informed Print Collector."  Ms. Butler will discuss all types of fine art prints and what collectors can look for and expect when buying prints - also what they can avoid.

Katharine will begin the lecture by describing the different types of fine art prints and giving a brief definition of each. The methods of the various printmaking techniques will also be described, along with examples. She will open to questions along the way so that people can get a really good understanding of what goes into making a print. The more someone understands, the better choices he or she can make in collecting, and more importantly, they will have an immense feeling of satisfaction in being able to understand what they are seeing in museum exhibitions and art shows. Butler will then go into the print market as it is today and what buyers need to be aware of, as there are several things that are called "prints" in the modern market that have nothing to do with fine-art printing. Finally, if time allows and there is interest, Ms. Butler will gladly answer questions about the gallery, its beginnings and the gallery business as she knows it.

The lecture is free and open to the public; however reservations are required. A reception for the artist will follow the lecture.
