Tapestry Artists of Sarasota is composed of five experienced tapestry artists who came together in 1997 with the shared interest of exhibiting our work and promoting the art of handwoven tapestry.   Members Becky Stevens, John Nicholson, Lynn Mayne, Pat Looper, and Terri Stewart, are studio artists individually pursuing the design and production of original tapestries.  Each of us creates work that gives voice to his/her concerns, beliefs or the joys we find in our lives. Some of us work with realistic imagery, some with abstraction.  Together we were commissioned to weave five large panels of tapestry for Temple Beth Sholom in Sarasota.   While we also show our work individually, the TAOS group has been featured in the following  exhibitions: 2003- Contemporary Tapestry, Florida Craftsmen Gallery,  St. Petersburg, F;  2004- Tapestries in the Garden/TAOS, Marie Selby Botanical  Gardens, Sarasota, FL;  2005-   Blue Ibis Gallery,Ruskin, FL;  2008-Tapestries From The Tropics, Florida Craftsmen Gallery, St. Petersburg, FL;  2009- South Shore Gallery, Apollo Beach, FL; 2010 - Art Center Manatee, demos @ Ringling Museum;  2011 - Studio @ Gulf & Pine, Anna Maria Island, The Art of Tapestry:Thread by Thread, Longboat Key Art Center.
